Award Winning Animal Rights Campaigner, Junk to Funk Crafter, Writer and Public Speaker
TV Presenter & Producer
News Reporter
This was my first job in TV, where I was thrown in at the deep end as a News Reporter. I had only been in the job a few days when Docklands was bombed and I found myself doing live reports from the scene.
I’m pictured here with the News Bunny, a famous face on the channel who I enjoyed working with tremendously. I managed to escape the show for which Live TV was perhaps the most famous for, Topless Darts!
In due course I was thrilled to be given my own two shows on the channel, Revelations with Nina (a ‘phone in show with resident psychic) and Video Box (a film review show).
Pet Rescue and Absolutely Animals
I auditioned for the role of presenting Absolutely Animals… and as the tabloids put it, “Sex kitten Dani Behr has been replaced by lovable Labrador Wendy Turner”. After 3 series of trotting the globe with Absolutely Animals, I went onto film the UK based spin off show Pet Rescue.
‘Pets’ included a cobra in a garage, an alligator in a spare room, a monkey in a phone box and a parrot who would only say ‘fuck off’! Pet Rescue had further spin offs, namely Family Pet Rescue and Pet Rescue Roadshow.
I presented Pet Rescue for 7 years and I am proud to say that it was consistently the most watched show on daytime television.
Animal Planet
In due course all the pet rescue shows were updated and re-edited for Animal Planet, and I spent many, many hours in a recording studio voicing the new scripts.
I enjoyed working with Animal Planet again when I hosted the Animal Planet Pet Awards.
I presented 60 episodes of You Do Too, for the Nickelodeon Channel Nick Junior.
My two co-hosts were Frankie & Stamper, two adorable puppets who were a joy to work with.
Your Kids Are in Charge was a Saturday night prime time show, which I hosted with my sister Anthea.
The format of this show provided great family entertainment – simple things in life, such as who could blow up a water bottle and make it burst first!
I presented and produced the first series of Crafty Beggars for TLC, alongside Julie Peasgood. It was a show that ‘put the competition into crafts’ and saw two teams go head-to-head to see whose handmade products could make the most money.
We went on to present and produce 6 more series of Crafty Beggars for Together TV.
The name of the show was extended to Crafty Beggars In The House!, and the format changed to a studio setting where lots of brilliant guests demonstrated their expertise. Particular emphasis was placed on upcycling, recycling and generally turning junk into funk!
Whilst in Mexico on a photo shoot for Hello! Magazine, I paid a brief visit to a spider monkey sanctuary called The Jungle Place. Some 12 months later Julie and I produced and presented a one-off show called Wendy & Julie’s Monkey Business. The show followed the stories of the monkeys and the people who look after them.
I am a Patron of a UK charity called Paws 2 Rescue and I went to Romania to see the full extent of the fabulous work they do over there and the depth of the problem with the country’s stray dog population. Not only did I return home with a rescue dog, but also with the thought that the subject of their work would make a fabulous television series… and thus Wendy Turner’s Brits Rescue Romanian Dogs found its way from script to screen!
Nothing got my creative juices flowing as much as my time presenting for Create & Craft TV, and with so many wonderful craft products to work with, I was like the proverbial pig in muck!
A fun part of being on television is the chance to be a guest on other shows. I’ve been thrilled to be on…
